Markup Notes

Documentation > Tutorials > Markup Notes

Most of the markups in BoltWire are simple and straightforward. This page includes a few extra notes.

BoltWire comes with a small symbol engine to make it easy to insert various html symbols to your wiki engine. The default symbols include:

(c) => ©
(r) => ®
(t) or (tm) => ™

To define additional symbols, simply add a line like the following to a config file:

$BOLTsymbolIndex['cent'] = '¢';

This will convert (cent) into ยข. Note you can also manually enter the symbols into your wiki by typing its html entity code or it asci code. In this case: ¢ will produce '¢'

The box markup allows you to display markup in several formats.

<box> Shows markup processed normally
<code> Shows the source code (no markup processed)
<html> Shows the html output of some markup
<markup> Shows the code and the box
<debug> Shows code, html, and box

The Math Shortcut

There is a simple shortcut to the math function you may find helpful:

The following two lines are equivalent:

[(math '2+3')]
{ 2+3 }

Notice the space before and after the math expression.

Many common HTML tags are allowed in BoltWire. Here's a list:

You can modify this list by copying the appropriate line from variables.php to config.php and modifying as desired.

A special <nolines> ... </nolines> markup can be used to disable BoltWire's vertical linespacing for a section of code. This might be useful if you cut and pasted a long email into a page with hardcoded line breaks. Wrap it in this markup, and those line breaks disappear in the output. You will, however, need to put in <p> tags to generate paragraph breaks.

To turn off BoltWire's vertical linespacing for your entire site, set vSpacing: false in site.config. This might be useful if you are trying to replicate wiki-creole for example.
